Blast From the Past

Tuesday, September 22nd, 2009

Rooting through some old files recently unveiled one of my earliest creations, the 2nd incarnation of my Flynnduism website, dating back to 2003/04…

This would have been my 3rd ever encounter with HTML, and my first with Flash, I wanted to update my initial Flynnduism website (which was setup on a free .tk domain, anyone remember those?) with comething neater and edgier. At the time I was listening to a lot of White Stripes, whose sharp red & white colour schemes (I had this poster on my wall at the time) no doubt played  a hand as inspiration for the design, as well as Dinosaur Jr who soundtrack the nice but ultimately clumsy flash intro movie.

Be warned, the volume on the intro is fairly loud, with in-built no option to mute!

Looking back, some aspects of it make me cringe – the in-your-face intro, the iframe layout and the very dodgy HTML coding, but there’s still a sense of pride in what I managed to achieve with my then-basic skills when it came to the web.

New Year, New Site

Thursday, January 29th, 2009

Christmas 2008 has come and gone, with the usual seasonal catchups, feasts and feeble attempts at resolutions.

I was lucky enough to enjoy the use of an iPod Touch for about a week, recieving a 32GB model as a fantastic Christmas present from my sister – and then unlucky enough to have it stolen from my jacket during New Year celebrations in Edinburgh, Scotland! I was impressed, addicted and gutted in quick succession.

Not being as Apple-crazed as many of my fellow designers and music lovers, I was quickly won over by the endless possibilities of the apps; finding directions, checking email and twittering whenever possible via wi-fi zones.

Our time together was brief;but the mark has been made – it may take awhile but I’ll be seeking a replacement as soon as I can afford one.

Hello World!

Thursday, January 29th, 2009

This is the start of my new site, where I’m hoping to incorporate my portfolio and a blog of some sorts; posting things I’ve worked on, sharing useful links and waxing lyrical on whatever various things come to mind.

I’ve been using Flynnduism as an online alias now for as long as I can remember; both as a social networking nickname and as a designer handle – this site is the first time I’ve tried gather the multiple aspects of this alias together in a comprehensive way, mixing my work with my thoughts and visa versa.

Watch this space!
