Ronan Flynn
Originally from Kilworth, Co. Cork; I moved to Dublin in 2002 to study for my BSc. in Multimedia at Dublin City University. I graduated in 2006 and started work as a web designer, which I’ve been happily pursuing ever since.
I work as a front end Interactive Designer for X Communications, an award winning digital media agency in the heart of the city. Prior to that, I spent a few years with Pigsback.com, as well as freelancing. If you visit my portfolio, you’ll see some of this work – most recently some WordPress-based sites and redesign projects.

I’m able to work Mac or PC, though most of the work I do is Windows-based these days, using the Adobe CS5 Suite.
Education
During my time in college, I worked with video and sound production, basic html websites, e-learning, illustration and graphic design, 3D computer modelling and animation as well as authoring with Flash and Director.
WordPress Fan
We covered quite a broad range of skills in different media, yet the one area I found myself coming back to time and time again was the web. A basic crash-course in html wasn’t enough for me, and soon I was creating hobby sites in my spare time for no reason other than the challenge of it.
As my skills developed; I studied flash animations, better design and improved code. In my 3rd year, I secured work placement with Pigsback.com, spending a total of 8 months there in 2005, before returning to DCU for my final year.

Employment
Upon graduation, I became a full-time employee as a web designer with the Pigsback studio team, working as part of a conveyor belt workflow process in sync with sales, technical and communications teams to meet deadlines with quality results.
This experience greatly improved both my design skills and code skills, working with a CMS, becoming familiar with ASP and javascript.

Through my freelance work, I taught myself CSS based design, jQuery and other tricks of the trade necessary to update my skills – something that will continue infinitely as the web industry continues to evolve – there’s always new technologies to learn and older techniques to perfect!
In 2009, I joined X Communications where I’m currently part of the design team, led by Stewart Curry.
We work with all sorts of clients; creating websites, interactives, marketing campaigns and mobile sites – find out more about xcomms here.
